Clifden Community Arts Festival began its 40-year life in Clifden Community School in 1977 and the arts in education has been the central ethos of the festival ever since. With the opening of a new community school in Clifden this year, the festival which takes place from September 13-24 2017, will be part of this new and exciting beginning for the town. The festival celebrates the arts for the children of Clifden Community School, Scoil Mhuire, Claddaghduff, Cleggan and Cashel and Ballyconnelly National school, helping to develop artistic and social skills, and provide an outlet for self-expression and development.

Luan Gallery is delighted to announce its first exhibition of 2017 entitled An Afterwards which will feature the work of leading contemporary Irish artist Mark Garry. The exhibition will feature new work by Garry and will respond directly to the architecture and design of Luan Gallery. Launching on Saturday, February 11 at 6pm, Luan Gallery will host a wine reception to which all are welcome.

'How is it for women now?' panel discussion promises to be an engaging event

A top class line up of female speakers will take pare in a a panel discussion in Castlebar in April inspired by the work of 1916 revolutionary, doctor and Mayo native, Dr Kathleen Lynn. Dr Lynn's legacy was the inspiration around a current arts project that is taking place in a number of locations around the county that was launched last Friday. The panel discussion exploring the position of women in today’s world titled 'How Is It for Women Now? takes place at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday April 14 at 8pm. The event is scheduled as part of the extremely successful Kathleen Lynn: Insider on the Outside exhibition, currently running in five visual arts spaces in Mayo. Discussing the subject will be Sarah Durcan, Catherine Marshall, Sinead McCoole, Michelle Browne, and some other guests.

TOMORROW EVENING, at the former Connacht Printworks in Market Street, sees the opening of the 2015 TULCA Festival of Visual Arts, which ushers out the city’s year-long programme of cultural jamborees in high style. As well as exhibitions, TULCA also hosts talks, debates, film screenings, and numerous events primed to trigger debate and spark palaver.
